Thus spake Ravi

Memorable ones from Ravi

1.Bringing up father
Ravi  from his very early days(when he turned 8 months or so) had a separate bed in a separate room from our bedroom. We used to put him to sleep in the bed in our bedroom (if Rajani does that he sings for him and if I am doing that Ravi sings for me!- most of the times I sleep before him and once in a while he chooses to get down from the bed and go to Rajani who would be watching TV in the hall and then it was upto Rajani to put him to sleep) and then take him to his bed. He usually slept very well throughout the night. Occasionally when he is not well(fever and cold) we make it a point to make him sleep between us in our bed. When he turned 2 and after I had to put him to bed frequently (he had stopped singing for me and I had to tell him stories now) I found it a bit too heavy to lift him up  and take him  to his bed after he had slept. I told him one night that I am finding it too heavy to lift him and now on he should lie down in his bed while I sit in a chair by the side of his bed and tell him a story. Ravi said alright to that and I put him in his bed, put a chair by the side of his bed, switched off the lights and turned on the fan. I started a story with animals as  characters in it. I was repeating this story many times over and Ravi knew  the story very well. He repeatedly got too excited and stood up on the bed and started completing the lines and acting out the story.  I told him to keep lying down and listen. He did jump up again a couple of times before the story was completed. Then I told him that now it is time to sleep and he should lie still while I  sit beside the bed till he is asleep. He immediately stood up and told me that `now you lie in the bed and I will tell you a story sitting on that chair. Thus my brilliant sounding idea was put to sleep forever.
