Getting wiser!!!

Ravi is playing with his muthachan in the bedroom when he remembers that one toy is in the drawing room and this is the conversation that followed…

Ravi: Ende kalipattam avide undu…nee eduthonde vaa.

Muthachan: Njan old alle enike padhukke povane kazhiyu. Ravi big and strong alle appo vegum poyi edukallo.

Ravi: Nee padhuke poyi edutha madhi!!!

Ravi is troubling his vel valliyamma while she is talking on the telephone. So his ammamma tries to distract him by taking a damaged mobile and acting as if she is talking to Rajeev maman. Ravi hears the talk for sometime and then says; “Adhu Rajeev maman ella”. His ammamma insists that it is Rajeev. Ravi then says;”ella. Adhu oru polinja phone annu. Adhilil samsarikan pattulla”!

Ravi’s health tip, “Thanutha vallathe kulicha enikke jaldhosham varulla. Njan karanjal annu enike jaldhosham varuva!”

Ravi throws his toys on the ground in a tantrum. His amma insists that he picks them up. Ravi says “ Njan tired aayi poyi.”

What does he know how (happily?) tired his amma is!!!

Updates

Over the past 2 months apart from the usual excitement, two major incidents happened. First was my ‘ezhuthe’. On the auspicious day of vidhyarambam, I was initiated into the world of letters by my achan with the help of my Valliyachan. My Chittappan bought me a nice ‘kasavu mundu’ and I wore that. I touched my achammas, ammas and achans feet, got their blessing and then sat on my achans lap in front of Gruvayoorappan where my achamma had lit the lamp. First achan wrote something on my tongue with a gold ring dipped in honey….yummm. Then on a plate full of raw rice achan and I wrote what valliyachan told us to. I think achan and I did well and got every thing right. I was very solemn through out…..everyone kept saying so. It was more of shock – my achan sitting in front of Guruvayoorappan and the lamp …. never seen that in my 2 plus years of life!!!

A month or so after that, amma and I made a sudden trip to Trivandrum. When we reached there Rajeev mamman was also there. I found out later that my muthachan had to be in this place called hospital for some reason. So, every afternoon amma and I would drive to the hospital and visit muthachan. Then suddenly he disappeared from his hospital room. We still went there and had cake. Then suddenly one day he was back in the room just like that and soon back home. I really don’t think it was a good idea to put him in this hospital place. He was perfectly okay before he went into the hospital. When he came back he had pipes and tubes and someone had cut into his ‘kumba’ which was then bandaged and so he couldn’t play with me. I hope he learned a lesson and will stay away from that place….of course we could always go there and have cake.

Break at Kochi!

Just when I was thinking that the world consists of only Calicut, Pandrum and Thigel....Bangalore was added. And now there is Kochi. Last weekend we went to Kochi to see ammama's exhibition and I had my first experience of a hotel - Bharat Tourist Home. Ofcourse I have stayed at ISI B'lore guest house but that is not a proper hotel!!!

I like travelling....and amma and achan were very pleased with my behaviour on our long car journey. It was nice talking away in the car and occassionally looking out. Sometimes I hummed and sang. I slept a bit too. I also liked wandering around the park and marine drive in Kochi, taking in the sights, and going down to the restaurant to eat. I also saw how fish is caught.

It was nice to see muthachan and ammamma. Just when my parents were tired of my 'blah-vlah' I got two new listeners. They are much better listeners than my parents and I think they are getting better at understanding my talk!!!

I was not too keen on getting back to Calicut were I have to go to school. But amma said that Kochi was a break and now we are back to the 'regular world'!!!

My amma says it is easier to get Happy to sit smartly than me!!!

My amma and I visited 'Pandrum' for Onam. Achan did not come as he was very busy. Out of the blue my amma decided she wanted a nice photo of Happy and me sitting together 'smartly'. Both Happy and I were not very smart when the photo session started but as soon as amma took a piece of biscuit, Happy became very smart and wouldn't pay any attention to me. I don't understand how, but, he was the greedy one and I got the bad name!!!

This is what I wake up to!

Put it anywhere, but in my mouth please!

She is going to do it!

I told you!

Pandrum and Thingel

We go to Pandrum by train and that is where Happy's house is. Muthachan, Ammamma and Valliyamma also live there. We go to Thingel in our car. That is where my Achamma stays. Avind, adhanth, valliyachan and valliyamma too stay there.

I enjoy going to both places. At Pandrum I can play with muthachan, paint with ammamma and sing to valliyamma. I go out and pick manjadi with Kevin chetan and vavachechi. At Thingel achamma gives me nice things to eat and I can play with Adhanth and Avind. There is a 'thode' there and lots of 'kalle' and 'vadi' to pick. I get to see lots of birds, butterflies and cows. Valliyachan and Achan take me to see them.

We have reached a compromise!

The deal is that I get a bottle in the morning but not with a nipple but with a straw. With some fuss I get to sit on amma and sip my milk. Sometimes I am able to get her to lift me and show me outside while I take little sips from my bottle. At night I get milk in the glass but only half a glass and with bournvita in it. Amma says that I will get muscles if I drink it and I can beat up the two "gommas". That is motivating!!!

I have started my 'non cooperation' movement'

Since I have turned two my parents (my amma in particular) has decided that I should not drink from my bottle. Okay, if they are so particular I won't ask for bottle. My only demand is that I don't want milk either. While I am very dignified about the whole thing my amma is trying all sorts of tactics - from pleading to outright aggression. Two days back she ties me to my high chair and I sit there with absolutely no demands (I never asked for bottle) and then she starts demanding that I drink milk from a cup. But I won't budge from my stand "No bottle, no milk". Simple!!!

Not so! While I won the war the other day after three hours of resistance but the battle continues. Yesterday she again puts the milk glass in front of me and the takes this yummy chocolate and put it into the glass of milk and very strictly told me not to put my hand in. Okay so I asked for a spoon and even that was denied. I was told that the only way to get the chocolate was to drink the milk. I refused. But I am not sure when but in between my breakfast she would slip spoonful of milk into my mouth. Anyway in the end I did not complain as I got the chocolate. So my amma won yesterday but don't think that the battle is over. I am thinking of a strategy to get the chocolate but not the milk.

I am just two and life is getting tough!!!

School venda.

I don't feel like going to school now a days. Home seems to be much more fun. We went hiking the other day to Thusharagiri in Waynaud. It was my first trekking experience and I would love to do it again. My father carried me up and up and up this path in a hill with plants and trees on both sides and it was raining too. Couple of times we stopped and I was allowed to play in water. I was not allowed anywhere near the 'vallachattam' but throwing stones and splashing around in the stream was great fun. However, I had to come off before I actually had enough of the fun. The trip down hill was equally good. The hill was really steep and it had started to rain heavily so my achan gave me to the guide uncle who carried me back. My parents were literally crawling down the hill while the guide uncle just ran and hopped down the hill with me in one hand and an umbrella in the other.

Once we were downhill someone asked me if I was tired and I said "yes" and everyone laughed! I don't understand what is so funny.

Anyways I did rather do such fun things than go to school but my parents don't seem to get the point despite my clear verbal requests of "school venda. Rabike school venda. Ponda. Rabi schoolil povende". And ofcourse the full throated screams of "acha acha" when I am left at the school.

:-(

Grandson of an Artist!

Bold strokes

Bolder strokes

Master piece

Lecture demo.

With Ammamma preparing for her exhibition of sculptures and paintings there were paints, paintbrushes and canvasses lying around. Watching her at work I also learnt what air to put on when playing with those stuff.

Happy and Me!!!

Happy tried to take my chair but I got him off ... with a bit of help from Muthachan.

Rain rain...stay!

I love water. Be it the tickle of my soo-soo or the 'kullu kullu' water from the tap, I try to splash around in it. The former is severely discouraged by my amma (which I find surprising ... after all she is the one who is most particular that I do soo-soo in the first place). But nothing prepared me for the fun I had in the rain the other day. Muthachan made me some boats but I found that the leaves flow as well. Water just poured and poured from everywhere. Now I don't understand the rhyme "Rain Rain Go Away"!?!
